How to safely connect common Web3 wallets (MetaMask, WalletConnect, etc.) to OpenSea — informational only.
Overview
OpenSea connects to your crypto wallet (MetaMask, WalletConnect, Coinbase Wallet, etc.) to read your address and let you sign transactions (list, buy, sell). Your private keys stay in your wallet; OpenSea requests signatures when needed.
Connecting MetaMask (desktop)
Open your browser with MetaMask installed and unlocked.
On OpenSea, click the profile / connect-wallet option and choose MetaMask.
Approve the connection popup from MetaMask; the site will see your public address only.
When making actions (list, buy), approve signing requests in MetaMask — always read message text before confirming.
Tip: Use a dedicated browser profile for Web3 activity to reduce extension conflicts.
Connecting WalletConnect (mobile)
Choose WalletConnect on OpenSea's connect flow — a QR code appears.
Open a WalletConnect-compatible wallet app on your phone (e.g., Trust Wallet, Rainbow).
Scan the QR code to pair; confirm the connection in your wallet app.
Approve signing requests on your phone when required.
Connection Best Practices
Always verify you are on the correct site (type or bookmark the URL).
Never paste or enter your private key / recovery phrase into any site.
Confirm every signature on your wallet — signatures can authorize txns.
Disconnect wallets from sites you don’t use regularly via your wallet’s connected sites list.
